About the Event: Understanding body image is essential for mental health professionals as it profoundly impacts clients' self-esteem, relationships, and overall well-being. This presentation will explore the psychological and social factors that shape body image, offer insights into the challenges faced by clients struggling with body dissatisfaction, and provide practical strategies for fostering body positivity and resilience in therapeutic settings. Learning Objectives:
- Understand the CBT Framework for Addressing Body Image Issues: Participants will gain a foundational understanding of how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) conceptualizes body image concerns and the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral factors involved.
- Identify and Address Cognitive Distortions Impacting Body Image: Attendees will learn to recognize common cognitive distortions related to body dissatisfaction and practice applying CBT techniques to help clients reframe negative self-perceptions.
- Utilize Practical CBT Interventions to Support Body Image Resilience: By the end of the presentation, participants will be equipped with actionable CBT strategies, including thought challenging and exposure exercises, to foster body positivity and self-acceptance in client.

Kira is the Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Pearl Wellness Practice. She is a licensed clinical supervisor and therapist serving individuals with disordered eating, eating disorders and body image concerns in DC, DE, MA, MD and FL. In addition to providing direct care, provides individual and group supervision, consultant services for other mental health professionals and practice, facilitates psycho-education groups, and contributes her eating disorder, leadership, and management expertise to blogs, speaking engagements and podcasts.
Taking a person-centered and cognitive -behavioral (CBT) approach, she guides others to identify their core beliefs and behaviors and helps them develop and implement skills and techniques that best fit their lifestyle, needs and wants for personal growth.
In Kira’s spare time, you can find her volunteering as the philanthropy chair for her alumni, mentoring psychology students, watching or playing sports, and hanging out with family.
